What is Malaikat Maut Challenge in Indonesia
In English, "malaikat maut challenge" could be translated as "grim reaper challenge". In Indonesia, this challenge went viral from Tiktok in 2021, when there is a video showing a bunch of teenagers consciously jumping into the front of a moving truck on a highway. The context is to challenge the death by hitting themself into a speeding truck. In the end, this trend has caused many victims from minor injuries, loss of body parts, and even death.
In the comment section, Indonesian netizens feel sorry and very sad about this phenomenon. But some of them hope that those teenagers who carry out this trend will get a deterrent effect or even bully them and wish them bad luck. Most of Indonesian netizens do a satirical/sarcastic comment saying they're feeling grateful when some of that boys get badly injured or get hit to death such as;
"pengambilan gambar sudah bagus, tinggal pengambilan nyawa aja" =
"the taking of the picture is good, just need the taking of their life."
"terimakasih pak supir karena sudah mengurangi sampah masyarakat//beban keluarga//manusia takberguna di dunia" =
"thanks to the driver for reducing the trash of society//family burden//unusefull human from the word"
"pesan kepada seluruh supir indonesia apabila bertemu anak2 itu, naikkan kecepatan, tambah bawa barang berat, dan apabila tidak kena diharap kembali untuk ditabrak lagi" =
"message to all driver in Indonesia, if you meet those boys, increase the speed, increase the carrying weight, and if you miss em, make sure to come back to hit em again"
"kenapa drivernya tabrak lari, harusnya mundur lagi biar dilindas sampe hancur" =
"why the driver hit and run, it supposed to reverse and crush em with tire"
There is no clear reason why those kids doing this kind a challenge, experts said this phenomena was affected by the economy, politics, and social issues. Hopefully there is no more challenge like this and Indonesian teenager will get better mindset to carry better Indonesia in the future. Best wishes for Indonesia
